The three-day TEQIP-III Professional Development Training (PDT) Programme at the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) starting from December 17, 2020 was the third online TEQIP-III PDT Programme hosted by the Institute. Prof. PRS Sarma was Programme Director and Prof. B Srirangacharyulu was the Programme Co-Director.

The aim of the programme was to create the needed capacities under TEQIP-III in technical education policy planners and administrators towards gaining greater appreciation for governance, institutional and policy reforms, as well as the management principles, precepts and practices, so that they are able to fulfil the role-responsibilities envisaged of them as mentors, facilitators, and champions of change, with competence and confidence.

The training aimed to facilitate networking and knowledge-sharing among the participants and the resource persons, provide insights into effective academic practices, and offered exposure to the latest developments in the academic, professional, and socio-economic contexts. The end goal is to empower the participants to transfer the benefits to their key stakeholders – the students, the community, and to the nation.

The three-day programme at IIM Visakhapatnam saw participation from 22 professionals from premier engineering institutions such as NIT’s, Universities, Autonomous and Government Engineering colleges, to name a few, across 09 states of India (List of Participants enclosed in Appendix 1). The list of participants included 08 Assistant Professors, 05 Associate Professors, And 09 Professors. The average teaching experience of the cohort was 17.5 years with the range from 3 years to 35 years. The average age of the participants was 45 years. Among the participants there were 17 Doctorates while the rest had a master’s degree. Finally, we had 6 women among the 16 participants.

The Valedictory address was delivered by Shri. S K Mohanty, Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Ministry of Labour & Employment; Govt. of India as Chief Guest. Prof. M Chandrasekhar, Director IIM Visakhapatnam and both program directors addressed the participants during Valedictory. The sessions were alive with interactions. and comments, and experience-sharing by the participants about the challenges and rewards of the academic journey.
