About International Relations Office
The Institute looks forward to attaining standards of global excellence as enshrined in the IIM Act 2017 by the Government of India, through its high-quality academic, research, consulting and capacity building initiatives, winning and sustaining in the process, the trust and confidence of students, parents, faculty, business, government and society. The IIM Act delineates several goals as the objects of the Institute. Among them, the following goal stands out in the context of International Relations:
- To co-operate and collaborate with educational or management institutions in other countries and to extend the interests of management education and research.
Considering our mandate as stated above, we believe that our engagement with the International Community of Business Scholars, Practitioners and Students is essential to deliver on our stated goals in a more meaningful way. Additionally, some of the immediate benefits that we can foresee for our partners and for us are as follows:
- These collaborations will enable us to bring more structure and rigour to our curriculum. We hope to exchange resources with our partner institutions to develop a world-class management education system.
- As one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, the Indian scenario is today the focus of many research studies. Through International Relations, we aim to open up avenues for collaboration in research among IIMV faculty and researchers from the international community.
- Being a new institute, IIMV aspires to forge a partnership with leading businesses and business schools worldwide. These global partnerships would open up new opportunities for us in co-teaching, student exchange, research collaboration, and exchanging ideas from across the World.
- These collaborations will also open up opportunities for our students to participate in global events organized by student organizations of sister institutions across the World.
- Through the international collaborations, we aim to showcase the achievements of our Institute and the local culture among the global community. At the same time, we aspire to learn some of the best practices from around the World. By benchmarking ourselves with the best in the World, we hope to contribute in a meaningful way to our community.
MOU signed between NIU and IIMV
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, Illinois, USA (NIU) on 14th September 2021 through the online mode. The purpose of this MOU is to strengthen the courses of IIMV by NIU through design, development, and delivery of programs of contemporary interest for the audience in India. The courses would be delivered by IIMV faculty in collaboration with faculty from NIU through online as well as offline modes.
The MoU was signed by Prof Balaji Rajagopalan, Dean College of Business, NIU and Prof M Chandrashekhar, Director, IIMV. On the occasion of signing the MoU, dignitaries such as Prof Anthony Preston, Assistant Dean Graduate Business Programs, NIU were present. Prof M Chandrashekhar, Director IIMV and Prof Amit Chakrabarti, Chair (International Relations) represented the Institute.
Two Day International Webinar
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam organised a two-day international webinar titled ‘The evolution of organisations: How to create an innovative company” on the 16th and 17th August 2021.
Prof. Sonja Klopcic (Director, Voditeljstvo Europe) and Her Excellency Violeta Bulc (Former Deputy Prime Minister, Slovenia and EU Commissioner) graced the occasion as the keynote speakers. Prof. M Chandrasekhar (Director, IIM Visakhapatnam), Prof. Amit Baran Chakrabarti (Programme Director, IIM Visakhapatnam), and Prof. Deepika Gupta (Programme Co-Director, IIM Visakhapatnam) also addressed the gathering.
The virtual event was attended by 800+ registered participants including IIMV faculty and students. Many foreign delegates were also a part of the event.
MOU signed between NIBM and IIMV
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Business Management, Sri Lanka (NIBM) on 26th July 2021 on virtual platform. The purpose of this MOU is to strengthen the courses of NIBM by IIMV through design, development, and delivery of programs of contemporary interest for the audience in Sri Lanka. The courses would be delivered by IIMV faculty using the NIBM world-wide platform (Digital Campus).
The MoU was signed by Dr. M A Kulasooriya, Director-General, NIBM and Dr M Chandrashekhar, Director, IIMV. During the event, dignitaries who were present from NIBM were Dr. Himendra Balalle, Head Consultancies; Mr Saman Rodrigo, Director Administration; and Ms Sivanjalee Yogaraja, Director Finance. The IIMV cohort was represented by Prof M Chandrashekhar, Director (IIMV); Prof Amit Chakrabarti, Chair (International Relations); Prof Mohammad Shameem Jawed, Chair Entrepreneurship; Prof Neena Pandey Coordinator (Administration); Prof PRS Sharma, Chair (PGP); Prof Bishakha Majumdar Faculty OBHR; Prof Vivek Madupu, Chair (PhD); Prof Anuradha MV, Chair (Executive Education) .
As part of this MoU, the first program to be jointly initiated by both institutes is the “Diploma in Women Entrepreneurship” . This is a one-year program targeted at Sri-Lankan women entrepreneurs. The program will consist of 6 modules, of which five will be taught online by faculty from IIMV. There will also be a project component which will be jointly administered and evaluated by faculty from both the institutes.
The Diploma in Women Entrepreneurship program is intended to A) foster entrepreneurship and the spirit of creativity and innovation among Sri Lankan women entrepreneurs; B) equip with the management concepts necessary to start a venture, and scale it up; C) provide them with the essential knowledge and skills required for an entrepreneurial journey from idea-generation to idea-implementation.
NUBS – IIMV Collaborative Research Roundtable on Sustainability in Business
The Indian Institute of Management Vishakhapatnam (IIMV) and Nottingham University Business School (Malaysia campus) organised a (virtual) research roundtable on topics related to ‘sustainability in business’ on 15th September 2021.
As UN PRME signatories both NUBS and IIMV are expected to conduct research and involve in knowledge exchange on topics related to CSR/ Sustainability. Given this, the aim of the NUBS (Malaysia) and IIMV research roundtable was to share our respective research knowledge and develop linkages with peers in these two institutions.
Prof M Chandrashekhar, Director IIMV and Prof Andy Chan Vice-Prost RKE, NUBS gave the opening remarks while the closing remarks of the event were given by Dr Lauc C K, Dean NUBS.

Business Planning in International Markets Course
Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam provides students with an opportunity to experience global education and international culture through the International Relations Office. The course 'Business Planning in International Markets' has been designed to help students understand the various aspects of operating a business in a foreign market. As a part of this course, students visit a foreign country and interact with the top management of reputed companies. Since the program began, students visited China, Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Dubai.
IIM Visakhapatnam now a member of SDSN
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam has been accepted as a member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The SDSN was set up in 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society.
SDSN is brings together global sustainable development leaders from all regions and all sectors, including civil society, public, and private sectors. Much of SDSN’s work is led by National or Regional SDSNs, which mobilize knowledge institutions around the SDGs. The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam is part of the South Asia Regional Network of SDSN.
SDSN members help in mobilizing research & policy experts from around the world on the technical challenges of implementing the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement. The SDG Academy meanwhile leads the education work of the SDSN. SDSN has offices in New York, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur.

PRME
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) is a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), which is a United Nations-supported initiative founded in 2007. This platform is used at the IIMV to raise the profile of sustainability among business students and equip them with the understanding and ability to deliver change tomorrow.
IIMV is committed to working with PRME, through the Six Principles, thereby engaging businesses and management students to ensure future leaders are created with the skills needed to balance economic and sustainability goals. This initiative draws attention to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the ideals of the UN Global Compact.
IIM Visakhapatnam has been accepted as a member of the PRME community from June 2021. We believe that our engagement with the PRME community will enable us to deliver our stated goals to society in a more meaningful way.
