Executive PhD is a part-time program. The student will be expected to complete the program in four years, including a maximum of one year of coursework. Under special circumstances, an extension may be granted to the student. In any case, the entire program should be finished within six years.
The Executive PhD Program is comprised of two phases:
Phase-1: Course Work
The coursework consists of the following components:
- General Core Courses (6 credits)
- Domain-Specific Courses (6 credits)
- Course of Independent Study (CIS) (18 credits)
Considering the schedule of working executives, the program is being planned in a way to maximises the use of digital platforms and minimises the visit frequency. There will be three immersions of 10 days, one in each term. During the first term, there will be one core course and one domain specific course. During the second term there will be two core courses and in third term there will be two domain specific course. All courses will be of two credit and CIS will be six credit.
- First Term: One core course, one area specific course, one CIS
- Second Term: Two core courses (International immersion), one CIS
- Third Term: Two area specific courses, one CIS
The dates of immersion will be announced in advance and the students need to submit NOC from organisation to attend the three immersions of 10 days each. If student will not able to attend any immersion due to unavoidable reasons (like non-approval of Visa), institute will decide alternative course of action.
After the successful completion of the above components, Comprehensive Examination will be conducted at the end of the first year to test whether the student has obtained a satisfactory level of comprehension and application of the concepts learned in his/her field of specialization. The Comprehensive Examination will comprise of both written and viva examination.
Phase-2: Thesis Work
The thesis is the document that forms a major component for fulfilling the criteria for the award of PhD. The thesis work broadly consists of the following stages:
- Constitution and Approval of the Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC)
- Thesis Proposal
- Thesis Submission and Defense
International Immersion
In the second term there will be ten days of international immersion at the University of Agder, Norway/ foreign university. The immersion involves completion of two core courses.
