Before joining IIM Visakhapatnam, he worked as a Professor at the School of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad. He has worked earlier as faculty at IIM Bangalore, RMIT University, and Monash University, Australia. He holds a PhD degree from Monash University, Australia and a Post Doctoral Fellowship from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, and Indian School of Business.  

His current research primarily focuses on Fintech and its applications in democratizing wealth distribution in India through financial empowerment for the bottom-of-the-pyramid population. He has worked extensively on the usage of technology to empower Indian poor households. He is the recipient of several research grants from the Ministry of Electronics and IT; the Department of Science and Technology; the Reserve Bank of India and the Ministry of Education. 

He has received several best paper awards in top conferences and published in Economics, Finance, and Accounting A-star journals. In 2023, his work on citizen science pilot, using blockchain, IoT, and computer vision technologies made him into the Top 100 Global Innovation Pioneers List at the G20 Digital Alliance Summit.

Prof. Marisetty is a visiting professor at the Indian School of Business. He has set up a Blockchain Lab at ISB through funding from S&P Global to increase awareness of fintech innovation for social impact.
