Valedictory Function of Batch-2 of Young Scientists Induction Program (YSIP) – Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam concluded the Young Scientists Induction Program (YSIP) under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for the first of the three batches on 26th October 2024. Fifty-three young scientists from the various centers of ICMR participated in the program.

Prof. Prashant Premkumar, the Program Director, welcomed the dignitaries and congratulated the participants on successful completion of the training program. He highlighted that beyond the acquisition of knowledge and skills, this program was also about fostering a sense of camaraderie, collaboration, and community among budding scientists. He added that the participants have formed bonds that transcend institutional boundaries and disciplinary divides, recognizing that the challenges we face in the world of science require collective effort and cooperation. He hoped that IIMV would continue to get to be part of such opportunities in the coming years.

In his remarks, Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director of IIM Visakhapatnam, thanked the Indian Council of Medical Research, for the initiative. He reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to fostering leadership, stating that we are willing to support ICMR by deploying faculty and experts to provide guidance in managerial skills when needed, paving the way for developing case studies that can further enhance practical applications in the field. He also stressed upon the importance of 3 Es: economical use of resources, efficiency of outputs and effectiveness of outcomes.

Shri Jagdish Rajesh, ADG (Admin) ICMR, was the chief guest for the valedictory. He highlighted the importance of capacity building among the young scientists who will be the torch bearers for future generations. He further highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary research and regulatory and ethical aspects of research and further highlighted the importance of various aspects of management in the field of scientific research. He also stressed that the scientists should take pride in being part of ICMR and contribute to the nation.

Prof. Kaveri Krishnan, Program co-director, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed her gratitude to Chief Guest Shri Jagdish Rajesh for gracing the event, and Prof M. Chandrasekhar for his constant support and guidance. She encouraged all the participants to remember that true progress is made not just through individual brilliance, but through teamwork, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence.
