IIM Visakhapatnam Celebrates 11th Foundation Day

IIM Visakhapatnam celebrated its 11th Foundation Day today, marking a significant milestone in its journey of fostering entrepreneurial leadership and academic excellence. The event featured Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary to the Government of India: Department of Defence R&D & Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), as the Chief Guest, and Ms. Malavika R. Harita, Member of the Board of Governors, IIM Visakhapatnam & IIM Bangalore, as the Guest of Honor. The ceremony took place at IIMV’s lush 241-acre campus in Gambheeram.

Prof. Kaveri Krishnan, Dean (Administration) at IIM Visakhapatnam in her opening remarks, set the tone for the proceedings, emphasizing the significance of the occasion and its alignment with the Institute's vision of excellence and leadership.

Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director of IIMV, highlighted the remarkable milestones the Institute has achieved over the past decade. In the10 years, IIMV has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality management education that blends theory with practice. The Institute has become a nurturing ground for future leaders capable of contributing to the private, public, and social sectors as professional managers, entrepreneurs, and stewards of emerging enterprises. He also expressed gratitude to both the central and state governments for their continued support.

Ms. Malavika R. Harita, in her address, spoke about the future of education, quoting the phrase “Vidya Param Daivatam” from Niti Shatakam, a 5th century work by philosopher and writer Bhartṛhari, which means “knowledge is the supreme deity.” She emphasized that this principle should guide and shape all educational endeavours, aligning perfectly with IIMV’s motto of fostering education, knowledge, development, harmony, and progress.

Dr. Kamat, during his Foundation Day address on "Defence R&D: The Road Ahead," underscored the vital synergy among academia (basic research), DRDO (applied research, technology and product development), and industry (production). He highlighted the pivotal role of technology transfer and collaboration with industry in driving the development process. Stressing the need for risk-taking and embracing lessons from failures, Dr. Kamat aligned his insights with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat,’ emphasizing self-reliance as a cornerstone for India’s technological advancement.

The Institute serves the learning aspirations of over 3,000 individuals annually from around the globe through its on-campus, online, and hybrid-mode programs. IIMV continues to achieve notable milestones, offering high-quality initiatives such as its flagship MBA program, which boasts 100% placement, supported by a faculty of 42 and a strong emphasis on research, innovation, and leadership. The Institute hosts IIMV-FIELD, one of India’s fastest-growing incubators, nurturing 180 startups, 75% of which are led by women entrepreneurs. A preferred destination for executive education, the Institute collaborates with esteemed sponsors and supporters, including Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, major central public sector enterprises, the Central Vigilance Commission, the Capacity Building Commission, the World Bank, and leading private and not-for-profit organizations. IIMV also ranks ahead of all new-generation IIMs in the NIRF rankings for the third consecutive year.

Dr. Kamat presented grants to eight PGP students in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. Additionally, awards were given to students, faculty, and staff for their achievements in sports also.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Vijaya Bhaskar M, Dean of Academics, who expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to IIMV’s growth and success.
