IIMV and BREDS Collaborate to Advance Science-Led Solutions and Sustainable Livelihoods for Tribal Communities in ASR District
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) has entered a partnership with Bapuji Rural Enlightenment and Development Society (BREDS) NGO to enhance societal welfare through Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). The initiative aims to establish STI Hubs, build capacity among tribal communities, and create sustainable livelihoods to improve quality of life.
IIMV will establish the hubs in Araku Valley, Hukumpeta, Paderu mandals and other locations of Sri Alluri Sitharamaraju District, Andhra Pradesh. The project will strengthen agricultural value chains for turmeric, ginger, pepper and other agri crops through Farmer Producer Organizations.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Prof. Kaveri Krishnan, Dean (Administration), IIMV, and Mr. A. Ramakrishna Raju, CEO, BREDS, in the presence of all stakeholders.
Prof. (Dr.) Sushil Kumar, Principal Investigator, welcomed the gathering and outlined the project’s initial steps toward achieving measurable impact on the ground. Prof. Kaveri Krishnan emphasized IIMV’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among tribal communities. Prof. Srinivas Josyula, Co-Principal Investigator, highlighted that over the next three years and the extended duration, the initiative will improve socio-economic conditions, strengthen agri-horticultural value chains, enhance infrastructure, and establish market linkages through Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
Mr.A. Ramakrishna Raju, expressed gratitude for the collaboration and introduced the field team responsible for project implementation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Srinivas Josyula, who acknowledged the support of Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director, IIMV and Dr. Prasada Raju, R&D Advisor, IIMV, and the SEED Division, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
