Inauguration of Faculty Housing Complex and Special Talk by Hon’ble MP Shri Sribharat Mathukumilli Garu at IIM Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, October 30, 2025: The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) inaugurated its new Faculty Housing Complex today at its campus in Gambheeram. The ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Visakhapatnam Constituency, Shri Sribharat Mathukumilli Garu, who served as the Chief Guest for the occasion.

The event commenced with a traditional puja and formal inauguration of the housing complex, followed by a tree plantation ceremony.  Following the inauguration, the Chief Guest took a brief tour of the IIMV campus and later addressed the IIMV community in a special session at the auditorium. The session began with a welcome by Prof. Kaveri Krishnan, Dean (Administration) & Faculty Nominee on the Board, and brief remarks on recent institutional initiatives by Prof. Vijaya Bhaskar Marisetty, Dr Ambedkar Chair Professor & Dean (Academics). He said, “the institute annually caters to the knowledge needs of about six thousand five hundred learners from across the globe through on-campus, online, and blended offerings.” He also spoke on the national and international collaborations and IIMV’s scale to impact.  He added that, “when IIMV grows, with it, India upskills” 

In his address, Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director, IIM Visakhapatnam, highlighted the Institute’s progress and its role in nurturing leadership, innovation, and nation-building. He added that, “As an institution of national importance, we are committed to educating and nurturing entrepreneurial leaders capable of creating innovative solutions for the business, government and society, with local focus and whole-of-nation outlook.”  He also added that IIMV aims to double the capacity of its flagship MBA programme, facilitated by the steady growth in faculty strength, which now stands at nearly 50. 

IIMV-FIELD, the Foundation for Incubation, Entrepreneurial Learning and Development, the institute has nurtured more than one hundred eighty startups and mentored over five hundred aspiring entrepreneurs. The Atal Incubation Centre, supported by NITI Aayog, is all set to strengthen this ecosystem further, positioning IIM Visakhapatnam as a national hub for innovation and inclusive enterprise, Prof. M. Chandrasekhar noted.

The Hon’ble MP, Shri Sribharat Mathukumilli Garu, delivered a Special Talk attended by students, faculty, and staff. In his interactive address, He spoke on his journey from Engineering (Purdue University) and MBA (Stanford University) to being Member of Parliament 18th Lok Sabha - Visakhapatnam. The engaging session covered a wide range of topics, including ethical research, brain drain, real estate, the nature of politics, energy harnessing, and increasing the green cover in Vizag. Addressing questions from faculty, staff, students, and Ph.D. scholars, he also spoke on labour laws and performance-based systems. 

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Neeraj, President of the Student Affairs Council.
