79th Independence Day Celebrations at IIM Visakhapatnam
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and national pride. The celebrations began with the gathering of faculty, staff, and students, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag by Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director, IIM Visakhapatnam and the singing of the National Anthem.
In his address, Prof. M. Chandrasekhar first expressed gratitude to the security personnel and housekeeping staff for their dedicated service. He paid homage to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence.
Highlighting India’s robust economic performance, he noted that the nation is currently achieving a Real GDP growth rate of 6.5%, driven by low inflation, buoyant capital markets, and healthy export growth. He contrasted this with the global scenario, China growing at 4.6%, the US at 1.6%, and the world average at 2.4%, underlining India’s position as a standout performer.
He pointed out that India’s capital market remains a key engine of growth, commanding 30% of the global IPO market share. Foreign Direct Investment inflows have reached USD 81 billion, Forex Reserves stand at USD 700 billion, and exports have touched USD 825 billion, marking significant growth. He also highlighted the emergence of sunrise sectors where India is making remarkable global strides.
Calling upon students and stakeholders to actively contribute to the nation’s growth story, he extended his best wishes to the PGP students and the IIMV community. He further noted that, with the advent of AI, the role of traditional managers is shifting from staff orientation to action orientation, urging them to solve real-world problems.
The celebrations featured vibrant cultural performances by students and a prize distribution ceremony recognising excellence in sports. The event concluded with the administration of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan pledge, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to a substance-free campus.
