Inauguration of YSIP-ICMR Batch 2
The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam inaugurated the second of the three batches of the Young Scientists Induction Program (YSIP) under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on 30th September 2024. Fifty-four young scientists from the various centers of ICMR are participating in the program.
Prof. Prashant Premkumar, the Program Director, extended his warm welcome to the participants and briefed them about the training modules and the program outcomes envisaged. The 4-week program, with 1 week online and 3 weeks on campus, is designed to enhance both functional and behavioral competencies, equipping participants with the skills needed for professional excellence. He expressed optimism that the program would make a lasting impact on the scientific community with the hope of training many more batches in the future.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Vijaya Bhaskar Marisetty, Dean Academics of IIM Visakhapatnam, thanked the Indian Council of Medical Research, for the initiative. He briefed the participants about how the Institute has been contributing to the capacity building of scientists and other professionals through its various hybrid programs. He highlighted that the program serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, and collaborative learning, where bright minds converge to explore innovative solutions to the challenges of tomorrow.
Dr. Lakshminarayanan, Deputy Director General (Administration), ICMR, was the chief guest for the inaugural. He highlighted the success of the previous batch of the Young Scientists Induction Program held in March 2024 in which a large cohort of scientists from ICMR participated. It is based on their high praise and positive feedback that three more batches of scientists were provided the opportunity of training in functional and behavioral competencies, of which the first batch successfully completed their training in August-September 2024. He spoke on the opportunities for professional growth and development as well as an enabling environment that exists in ICMR.
Prof. Kaveri Krishnan, Program co-director, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed her gratitude to Chief Guest Dr. Lakshminarayanan for gracing the event. She also thanked Prof M. Chandrasekhar, Director IIM Visakhapatnam, who played a pivotal role in the launch of this program. She further extended her thanks to the participants for their active interest in learning and upskilling of their talents.
