IIM Visakhapatnam Celebrated the Graduation Day of MGNF Programme Batch 2021-2023

The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) announced the successful culmination of the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) Program Batch 2021-2023. The two-year program, by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India (GOI), under the Scheme of the Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion ("SANKALP") Program leading to the award of a Certificate in Public Policy and Management, was conducted under IIM Visakhapatnam. A total of 61 fellows from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Bihar received their certificates. 

Addressing the MGNF graduation function, chief guest Shri D Chakrapani (IAS Retd), Former Director General, AP HRD institute, congratulated all the participants for achieving the certificates. He praised the effort of the IIMV Director, Prof. M Chandrasekhar, for mentoring the program well in the institute. He shared that this was the crucial time to learn all the necessary skills and inculcate in participants to implement them on the grassroots level. He shared that the MGNF experience will allow fellows to handle any critical situation as they have acquired enormous exposure at several institutions and government units. He added that MGNF Fellows can be called social entrepreneurs as they have dealt with several sectors like education, health, transportation, and skill development. He added that with the help of technological advancement, there could be enough opportunities in several sectors to utilize their learning to transform the revolutionary societal changes that in turn will help attain the standards of global excellence for India. 

Addressing the event, Shri Gyati Kacho, Asst. Director, Dept. of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, SSDM Representative of Arunachal Pradesh government highlighted his journey of working with MGNF fellows. He added that as far as the roles of MGNF fellows are concerned, they have done remarkable work, especially in Arunachal Pradesh. Since they have worked at the grassroots level, many government officials are willing to continue the work with them so that their learned skills in public policy management can be implemented well at the district level. He lauded the efforts of IIMV Director Prof. M. Chandrasekhar and Program Director Prof. Mohammad Shameem Jawed, under whose guidance the program has achieved this massive success. He urged the graduates to keep growing by learning more productive skills, which will benefit society.  

Addressing the gathering, Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director IIMV, expressed gratitude to faculty members who nurtured the fellows to uplift their skills. He highlighted that it is remarkable to see that senior government officials are praising the efforts of the MGNF fellows. He added that when the fellows work as civil servants, there is no doubt that they will make everyone proud of their comprehensive work. He added that IIMV will continue to support them all in the best possible manner and will explore opportunities for their future career prospects . He wished all MGNF fellows a bright and brilliant career ahead and urged that IIMV will look forward to working with them. He also commended The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India (GOI), who have been a constant source of support for this program.

During the event, some of the senior officials from various sectors, via video testimonials, expressed gratitude and praised the efforts of MGNF fellows, which they have shown in their respective assigned districts. MGNF fellows who wrote the best essays were awarded merit certificates and cash prizes.

Prof. Mohammad Shameem Jawed, Chairperson (MGNF Program)/ Program Director, gave a brief insight into the program for the 2021-23 cohort. He added that the program is intended for public policy and skill development and enabling them to work as an understudy to the Collector and District Magistrate. While giving the overview of the program, he added that the MGNF program was started in 2021, intending to support working professionals involved in district administration. He praised the MGN fellows' efforts for making the significant activities, initiatives, and academic modules successful with their rigorous hard work. He praised IIM faculty members for being consistent supporting members, due to which the fellows stood as the highest in all parameters. At last, he thanked the dignitaries and faculty members for attending the graduation event.
