SUSTAINABILITY CONCLAVE



                  20 April:

            Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam organised a ‘Sustainability Conclave’ on the topic of ‘Productivity
            and Green Growth’ on April 20 at its permanent campus in Gambheeram. The objective of the conclave was to
            promote sustainability objectives and green growth project. The Institute also signed a Memorandum of
            Understanding with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).  The guests Shri Rajeev Ranjan, IAS (Retired),
            Director - ICRO (NCP), Shri Sundeep Kumar Nayak, Director General, (NCP), Shri KD Bhardwaj, Director and Group
            Head - Environment and Climate Action (NCP), Shri Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director, UNGC - Network India, and Dr.
            CV Chalapati Rao, Professor Emeritus of Andhra University College of Engineering were welcomed by IIMV director
            Prof. M Chandrasekhar.
            The chief guest, Shri Sundeep Kumar Nayak, shared how the concept of sustainable development began in the
            business sector and is now gradually shifting into the academic realm. Shri Ratnesh Jha, the keynote speaker,
            provided a concise summary of the UNGC’s two-decade-old initiative, which covers 10 sets of principles along with
            SDG goals. Dr. C.V. Chalapati Rao, who has decades of government experience, shared how he overcame the
            obstacles he encountered while working on sustainable projects in the NCR region, Damodar Valley, and six districts
            of West Bengal. Shri K.D. Bhardwaj delivered a thematic presentation on the National Productivity Council of India
            (NPC), which offers consulting and training services in a variety of fields, such as Energy and Environmental
            Management, etc., to the government and organisations in the public and private sectors. Further, the director of
            ICRO, Shri Rajeev Ranjan, stated that the conflict in the economic and environmental sectors has disrupted harmony.
            He also mentioned PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Mission LiFE’ (Lifestyle For Environment) initiative, which emphasises
            renewable energy and climate protection. The session was followed by a round of participant questions.
            Prof. M. Chandrashekhar highlighted some salient features related to economics, the environment, and other aspects
            related to sustainable development. IIM-Visakhapatnam is one of the three IIMs to receive a Green Rating for
            Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA), he added. Additionally, he discussed topics such as  balanced and
            stakeholder capitalism, which focuses on renewable energy.
