OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS
chapter meeting with a presentation in which he provided
the most recent details on the permanent campus. Alumni
were ecstatic to hear the latest information regarding the
permanent campus’s soft debut on June 23, 2022. They
were enthusiastic about the placement successes of their
juniors and pledged support for the campus involvement
initiatives. They also admired the effort of the Alumni Office
and Alumni Committee in organising Chapter meetings
and other activities. They anticipate participating in the
mega Alumni Meet that will be hosted in January/February 2023 at the permanent campus, Gambheeram.
A few suggestions were made by the alumni cohort. Darshan Patel of the 2016-18 Batch proposed linking
the e-library to the alumni portal for easier access to the books, magazines, and other publications. Alumni
of the 2019-21 Batch, Anoop Nair, felt that it would be rewarding if alumni participated in community
service activities. Alumni of the 20 l8-20 batch, Saurabh Yadav volunteered as a Point of Contact for the
Mumbai Chapter.
Prof. Arni S.R. Srinivasa Rao donates Handbook of Statistics series to IIMV library

IIM Visakhapatnam was elated to host Prof. Arni S.R.
Srinivasa Rao, Professor and Director of Laboratory
for Theory and Mathematical Modeling, Department of
Medicine-Division of Infectious Diseases, Medical College
of Georgia, and Department of Mathematics, Augusta
University for interaction with IIMV faculty and students
on 27 June 2022. During his visit, he donated 8 volumes of
the Handbook of statistics series, published by Elsevier to
the IIMV library. The handbook is co-edited by Prof. Arni
Rao along with Prof. CR Rao,
the pre-eminent Indian-American mathematician and statistician. At the seminar, he briefly spoke about
his association with the eminent statistician Prof. CR Rao. In his address, he emphasized the importance of
Mathematics and Statistics in today’s era and how it underpins the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He also
spoke about the practical application of AI in epidemiology, climate modelling and its potential for effective
judicial decision-making.
Prof. Shivshanker Singh Patel, Head, Interdisciplinary Decision Sciences & Analytics Lab (IDeAL), moderated
the session and referring to Prof. CR Rao, he highlighted that the recognition in the scientific field would take
a longer time, so one should not be impatient and look out for quick success.
