Professor Chandrasekhar is an engineer and management professional by training. Between 1983 and 2002, he held senior management and top executive grade positions in the corporate world, in manufacturing and BFSI sectors. He was with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad as a full Professor from April 2002 to March 2017 and held many academic leadership positions such as Area Chair, Centre Director and Dean, of multiple disciplines, multiple times. After his first five-year term as Director of IIM Visakhapatnam (March 2017-22), he has been appointed by the Board for a second full-term (March 2022-27). He has been the Chairman or Member of many high-powered, apex or empowered Committees constituted by the Ministries or Departments of the Govt. of India. He served on the Boards of organizations in the public and private sectors.

Prof. Chandrasekhar’s recent engagements include:

  • Member, Board of Governors of Indian Institute Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kurnool (IIITDMK), Andhra Pradesh
  • Member, Search-cum-Selection Committee for the Director-General positions of Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), GoI.
  • Member, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Higher Education Committee 
  • Convener, Education-Skills Panel, CII, Andhra Pradesh
  • MD, IIMV-FIELD: IIMV Foundation for Incubation, Entrepreneurial Learning & Development
  • Chairman, Advisory Group of the Ministry of Education, GoI, on implementation of NEP 2020 Recommendations on Multi-disciplinary Education.
  • Member, Advisory Committee for formulating the roadmap for Governance for "Vision India@2047" of Dept. of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), GoI.
  • Member, Research Advisory Committee, National Institute of Technology Warangal.

              Chandrasekhar's interests are in Public Policy, Public Service Delivery, Performance Management in Public Sector Organizations, Administrative & Governance Reforms, and Innovations in Public Systems.

              Apart from teaching regularly in executive education programs on themes of current relevance and contemporary interest, he teaches courses such as "Managing Enterprises" and "Business, Government & Society" in Post Graduate Programs.

              Chandrasekhar has been publishing articles/papers on themes of topical interest in news-papers, online forums and in peer-reviewed research journals.

              In his academic work career of over 20 years, Chandrasekhar led and/or taught in hundreds of capacity-building programs; and, as a Project Leader or Member, contributed to dozens of applied-research and consulting/advisory assignments of the Ministries/Departments of the Central and State Governments and the Public Institutions under them.

              As the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Chandrasekhar provides leadership to IIM Visakhapatnam and is responsible for implementation of the decisions of the Board.

              Earlier, at ASCI (Hyderabad) too, Chandrasekhar held many academic and administrative leadership positions such as Director of the Centre for Public Policy, Governance & Performance; Director-in-charge of the Centre for Poverty Studies & Rural Development; Director of the Centre for Innovation & Technology; Chair of the Technology Policy, Management & Innovation Area; Dean of Research & Consulting, Dean of Long-term Programs and Dean of Training Programs (Long-term & Short-term). He was also the Director of Centre for Innovations in Public Systems, a specialized Centre established by the Govt. of India.
