Leading with Words: DST Scientists at Executive Program on Leadership Communication
13 March 2026
Under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India, IIM Visakhapatnam successfully hosted a transformative five-day programme on Leadership Communication: Key to Success. The programme brought together 17 participants from premier national research and government institutions, including the Directorate General of Mines Safety, Central Council for Research in Siddha, ICAR Indian Institute of Soil Science, CSIR National Physical Laboratory, and the G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment.
Led by Prof. Chandreie Mukherjee and Prof. Sunitha Tumkur, the programme was inaugurated on March 9 by Prof. Vijaya Bhaskar Marisetty, Dean Academics, IIM Visakhapatnam. Over five enriching days, participants engaged in sessions on persuasion, interpersonal skills, mastering negotiations, academic writing, and leadership communication strategies — each designed to sharpen their ability to lead with clarity and confidence.
The programme culminated in group presentations by participants, reflecting their learning and growth throughout the week. The Valedictory Session was graced by Prof. Chandrasekhar M, Director, IIM Visakhapatnam, who underscored that effective communication lies at the heart of leadership — motivating, influencing, and building meaningful connections. He further emphasised that listening is not merely a soft skill, but a strategic leadership capability.
The top two presentation groups were recognised for their outstanding efforts, and participants described the experience as a journey of learning, unlearning, and relearning — leaving the programme better equipped and inspired to take on leadership roles in their respective organisations.
