Communication is the key
Yes, every day brings in a new task or a new challenge for us to solve but that does not mean we come to
office, finish the task assigned to us and leave (believe me, do not be that guy), instead talk to your peers,
colleagues or office staff get to know about the office culture, let them tell you about their struggle with that
legacy code or the one huge task that they did which was worth all the hardships. In an attempt to getting
to know the people around you, you will allow them to get to know you better.
Ask for help!
Being a newbie or fresher, it is common tendency to prove one’s worth and in doing so we stop ourselves
from asking for any help while facing any task that may be bit too difficult in a fear of getting judged. Reality
cannot be any further away from this. Asking for help can be the first step towards getting to know your
colleagues and forming a bond. It will give you an insight on how to approach a challenging task. Remember
communication is the key.
Be accountable
Be it a team of 5 or 100, be accountable for your task. Any task assigned to you, make sure that you give
them the specific updates about your findings and your approach on the task instead of waiting for your
lead/manager to come and ask you for the updates. This makes them trust you on any task, believe that they
don’t need to have an eye on you, and you will reach out to them once you are done. That my friend is the
point where you build yourself in the company.
Initiative builds career
Opportunity knocks on the door every now and then, it’s up to us whether we ignore it or answer the door.
Taking an initiative on anything however little it may be matters. It shows the rest that you are not afraid to
fail, it shows that you can be in charge and get something done on your own or with the help of others. This
is a rare quality and a bankable one which builds confidence in oneself and takes the career up a notch.
Speak your mind
There may be some change that you would like to see in the task that your team has been assigned to, your
instinct wants you to let others know about your idea. Do it. Talk to your team members, your lead, let your
team know how you would approach the task. This way you will know if your idea was good enough or if
there were any flaw in your approach. Speaking your mind will not only increase your thinking ability but
also improve your cognitive and problem-solving skills.
Be open for feedbacks
Remember, executing these above-mentioned pointers is all well and good, but we are still freshers and
lack the experience which only comes with doing these for years even if one fails couple of times. The most
important thing is to be open for feedbacks. Feedbacks nurture our growth and being open for feedbacks
makes us grounded and ensures that we do not repeat our mistakes.
