With the launch of the PhD Programme, we at IIM Visakhapatnam crossed yet another important
milestone in our exci ng journey as a much sought-a er business school. We are also proud that we are
the first new-genera on IIM to launch the programme.
Declared as an Ins tu on of Na onal Importance under the IIM Act 2017, the Ins tute is keen on building
its iden ty as a knowledge-en ty, focusing on research of high quality and large impact. We, therefore,
believe that star ng this programme leading to the award of PhD Degree, is a significant step in advancing
new knowledge and innova on in management theory and prac ce, as enshrined in the objects of the Act.
We are accordingly commi ed to providing good resources and facili es conducive to intensive research,
in our well-equipped campus.
Right from incep on, IIM Visakhapatnam has been the beneficiary of the relevance and rigour brought
into its flagship MBA programme by its Mentor, IIM Bangalore. The doctoral programme being launched is
no excep on, with the Ins tute drawing upon the rich exper se and wealth of experience of the Mentor.
We look forward to welcoming the first batch of doctoral students with poten al and passion, who could
leverage the strengths of the Ins tute to carry out research work in areas of contemporary na onal and
global interest.

IIM Visakhapatnam is launching the Doctoral Programme, leading to
the award of a PhD Degree from the academic year beginning 2019.
The Doctoral Programme is being launched in two areas of
specialisa on, i.e., Finance & Accoun ng and Produc on & Opera ons
Management. IIMV is firmly commi ed to striving towards excellence
in management research and teaching. A cri cal component towards
fostering a vibrant research ecosystem is a high-quality doctoral
programme. Towards this objec ve, IIMV’s doctoral programme has
been carefully designed to provide the required founda ons for a
research-intensive career in management. We warmly welcome you as
the inaugural batch of doctoral students. We are certain that you will
find it exci ng and fulfilling, as you embark on this journey of exploring
and contribu ng to management research.

Welcome
IIM Visakhapatnam is commi ed to excellence in management
teaching and research. The launch of PhD Programme is a step
towards bolstering the research capabili es of students as well as
of the Ins tute. The collabora on of the doctoral students along
with the faculty cohort at IIMV and from our mentor Ins tute (IIM
Bangalore) would create an excellent pla orm for research.
We are beginning the doctoral programme in two specialisa ons
for the coming academic year and plan to expand the programme
to other management disciplines in future. The programme is
designed in a way where the coursework and research training the
students undergo, will be a launching pad for a frui ul career
ahead.
We invite you to be a part of the first batch of the doctoral students
of IIM Visakhapatnam, to work with us, lead us and follow us into
making an impact in management research.
