Prof. Raghava Rao Mukkamala from Copenhagen Business School and Prof. Shivshanker Singh Patel from Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam, at the Inter-disciplinary Decision Sciences & Analytics Lab (IIMV) concluded a seminar course on “Leveraging Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models for Research Exploration and Data Analysis”. Three days with such a dynamic & enthusiastic PhD Students of Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam, a kind of sandbox where teaching & learning sessions with full of NLP concepts & jupyter notebooks.
Predicting the Winner of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

The lab has collaborated with ANK – IT & Analytics Club of IIM Visakhapatnam to organize a data analytics challenge “Predicting the Winner of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023†on 26th October 2023 among the students at business schools. The winner and runner-up teams were given cash prizes for their innovative approaches.

Prof. Arni S.R. Srinivasa Rao, Professor and Director of Laboratory for Theory and Mathematical Modeling, Department of Medicine-Division of Infectious Diseases, Medical College of Georgia, and Department of Mathematics, Augusta University for interaction with IIMV faculty and students. At the seminar, he briefly spoke about his association with the eminent statistician Prof. CR Rao. In his address, he emphasized the importance of Mathematics and Statistics in today’s era and how it underpins the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He also spoke about the practical application of AI in epidemiology, climate modelling and its potential for effective judicial decision-making.
Virtual Symposium on Applications of Machine Learning and Data Science in Inter-disciplinary areas

The Virtual Symposium on “Applications of Machine Learning and Data Science in Inter-Disciplinary Areas” took place on May 29-30, 2022, hosted by IIM Visakhapatnam’s IDeAL lab. It featured about 20 papers and discussions on healthcare, natural resources, and public policy. Keynote addresses included Dr. Nachiket Mor on healthcare, Dr. Avik Sarkar on computational public policy, and Dr. Uttam Kumar on natural resource management. The event, supported by IIM Visakhapatnam’s Director Professor M. Chandrasekhar, also involved session chairs Dr. Tarun Sharma and Professor Kalyan K, along with contributions from research interns and staff.
Seminar on Artificial Intelligence: Industrial Manufacturing, Health Systems, and COVID-19

The Inter-disciplinary Decision Science and Analytics Lab (IDeAL) at IIM Visakhapatnam welcomed Prof. Arni S.R. Srinivasa Rao, Director at the Laboratory for Theory and Mathematical Modeling, Augusta University, Georgia, on 18 November 2021, for the IDeAL-Seminar on ‘Artificial Intelligence: Industrial Manufacturing, Health Systems, and COVID-19. Prof. Rao spoke about exact deep learning machines and the extent to which they approach the parameter of independent thinking in the absence of rule-based directions, which has been the original purpose of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He also presented a pioneering AI model for COVID-19 identification and spoke about the role of AI in manufacturing and healthcare.
Inter-disciplinary decision sciences and Analytics lab Inauguration

The inauguration of the IDeAL Lab at IIM Visakhapatnam focused on interdisciplinary decision sciences and analytics, featuring esteemed guests and discussions on addressing societal challenges with emphasis on healthcare, resource management, and computational public policy and collaboration with industry and academic institutions for data-driven solutions.
