2nd Annual Convocation of IIM Visakhapatnam
Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) hosted its 2nd Annual Convocation here on Thursday. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri N Chandrababu Naidu was the Chief Guest. Present on the occasion were Shri Hari S. Bhartia, Chairman - Board of Governors of the Institute and Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, Director. Several eminent personalities including the Members of the BoG attended the function.
The CM congratulated the graduating students on their success. He said “The fourth industrial revolution has begun and this time it hinges on IT and IOT (internet of things). Make technology as the platform for building your dreams. Set goals and proceed systematically towards them.”
He has advised students that “Earning money is only a by-product, the important thing is building a strong career that revolves around ethical values.”
He also said that, “Women empowerment is the key to the overall development of a country. The role reversal has already set-in. Earlier, women were dependent on men, and now it is the other way around.”
In his address, Shri. Bhartia applauded the graduating students for being the first among the newer IIMs to receive the MBA degree. He has also informed the gathering that in about three years’ time, IIM-V will have its own state-of-the-art campus at Gambheeram in the city.
Prof. Chandrasekhar in his report presented the major milestones achieved in the Institute’s exciting journey. 100% placements with attractive salary packages, recruitment of faculty with high credentials, conduct of management and faculty development programs, launch of women-entrepreneurship program were among the successes highlighted by him.
The Institute has already taken possession of the land allotted by the Govt. of AP. He expressed confidence that the Institute would start operating from the new campus, in the next three years.
With the IIM Act 2017 having come into effect, Institutes are empowered to award degrees. 45 students were awarded the Master of Business Administration titles. Three gold medals were presented to meritorious students for their performance excellence. The students and parents were joyful and also expressed happiness that with the Institute increasing the student intake to 100 from this year, many more management-education aspirants would get the opportunity to study in this prestigious institution and shape their careers.
